Patricia
Brine is a retired school teacher. For thirty-five
years she taught children attending the public schools
from Kindergarten to Grade twelve, in subjects ranging
from mathematics to music. She was a music (strings)
consultant for fifteen of those years, conducted
bands, orchestras, and choirs for junior and senior
high school for most of her teaching career, and
worked in learning resources (librarian) in an inner
city school for seven years. In a previous life,
she played string bass with the Edmonton Symphony
Orchestra for eight years and was their music librarian
for three.
Patricia Brine¹s writing includes collecting
and adapting folk tunes for two books of music
for young bass students, being editor of the Fine
Arts Council journal, writing articles for newsletters,
journals and newspapers, and, since retiring,
writing a series of mystery novels (yet unpublished).
Patricia Brine has two adult children who play
the bass and, when pressed to do so, a husband
who repaired them. In her free time, as an amateur
musician, she now plays with a couple of orchestras
and sings with the Richard Eaton Singers.
