Thimerosal (49.6% mercury by weight) has been recognized by the California Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment as a developmental toxin, meaning that it can cause birth defects, low birth weight, biological dysfunctions, or psychological or behavior deficits that become manifest as the child grows, and maternal exposure during pregnancy can disrupt the development or even cause the death of the fetus. In this presentation, an overview of the latest population epidemiology, clinical, molecular, and animal model evidence will be reviewed showing a direct relationship between increasing doses of mercury from thimerosal-containing childhood vaccines and neurodevelopmental disorders. In addition, an overview of a new novel treatment therapy for some children with neurodevelopmental disorders will be presented.

David A. Geier is president of MedCon, Inc. He graduated with honors from UMBC with a B.A. in Biology and a minor in History. He has been a researcher scientist at the National Institutes of Health. Presently, he is a graduate student in biochemistry at the George Washington University. David has co-authored about 30 peer-reviewed scientific/medical publications on vaccine safety, efficacy, and policy. He has received critical acclaim from his colleagues for his research on vaccines by winning the “Stanley W. Jackson Prize,” which is given to authors having the best paper in the preceding three years in the Journal of the History of Medicine and Allied Sciences published by Duke University. He has addressed numerous professional meetings, and most recently co-addressed the Institute of Medicine of the United States’ National Academy of Sciences on vaccines. His research has received national and international media coverage. David Geier has been involved in vaccine cases before the no-fault National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (NVICP) and in civil litigation.

Dr. Mark R. Geier has an M.D., with a Ph.D. in genetics. Dr. Geier is president of the Genetic Centers of America, and has been in clinical practice for more than 20 years. He was a researcher at the National Institutes of Health for 10 years. Dr. Geier was also a professor at the Johns Hopkins University and at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He has addressed the Institute of Medicine of the United States’ National Academy of Sciences, the United States’ State Department, the Government Reform Committee of the United States’ House of Representatives, and numerous other professional meetings. Dr. Geier has authored almost 100 peer-reviewed scientific/medical publications, and most recently, he has co-authored about 30 peer-reviewed scientific/medical publications on vaccine safety, efficacy and policy.
