Dr. Jed Baker is the Director of the Social Skills Training Project has been a clinical psychologist since 1992. He is on the professional advisory board of ASPEN (an information network for parents of children with Asperger’s syndrome). He is a behavioral consultant for several New Jersey School systems, where he provides social skills training for students with pervasive developmental disorders and learning disabilities. He directs and supervises social skills training for students at Milburn Public Schools.

In addition, he writes, lectures, and provides training across the country on the topic of social skills training for individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome and related Pervasive Developmental Disorders. He has recently published both a manual on social skills training for children with Asperger’s Syndrome and a social skills picture book to aid in social skills training.

David Kirby
has been a professional journalist for over 15 years, and has written extensively for The New York Times for the past seven years. Kirby was a contracted writer with the weekly City Section at The Times, where he covered public health, local politics, art and culture, film and theater, architecture, zoning and land use, among many other subjects. Currently, Kirby is a contributor to The Magazine, Arts & Leisure, Personal Health, Men’s Health, Science Times, Escapes, Travel, Weekend and other sections of the paper. Kirby has also written for a number of national magazines, including Glamour, Redbook, Marie Claire, Mademoiselle, Self, Art News, and others. In addition, Kirby was a foreign correspondent in Mexico and Central America from 1986-1990, where he covered the wars in El Salvador and Nicaragua, and covered politics, corruption and natural disasters in Mexico. From Latin America, he reported for UPI, the San Francisco Examiner, Newsday, The Arizona Republic, Houston Chronicle and the NBC Radio Network.

Valerie Paradiz, PhD
Valerie Paradiz, PhD, is a writer
and the founder and executive director of the School for Autistic Strength Purpose and Independence in Education (ASPIE), which has been featured in the New York Times, Redbook Magazine and Japanese Public Television. ASPIE is a full day therapeutic and educational program for middle and high school students diagnosed with high-functioning autism, Asperger's syndrome and PDD.


Valerie's memoir, Elijah's Cup: A Family's Journey into the Community and Culture of High-Functioning Autism and Asperger's Syndrome (Jessica Kingsley, 2005) is the compelling story of the author's experiences raising her autistic son, their involvement together in the grassroots self-advocacy community, and her own ultimate diagnosis with Asperger's syndrome. The book offers readers an insider’s history and celebration of autistic culture, including profiles of individuals who are now believed to have had autistic-like traits, such as visual artist, Andy Warhol, comedian, Andy Kaufman, and physicist, Albert Einstein. She has one forthcoming book written for the autism community and continues to publish literary non-fiction, including the recent narrative history, Clever Maids: The Secret History of the Grimm Fairy Tales (Perseus, 2005).

Valerie speaks nationally and internationally at autism conferences on topics such as parenting strategies, improving and creating school programs for children with ASDs, strengthening advocacy skills in parents, professionals and individuals on the autism spectrum, and developing talents in children with ASDs.
